Bale and Depp is certainly an interesting combination. Both great, but really different kinds of actors. It'd be interesting to see what this mixture throws up. They are my two favorite actors so it was already a bloody phantasmagorical amazing combination. Posted by Baladev on Nov 20, '07 1:25 PM for everyone | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Comedy |

I just discovered them recently and I liked their music mainly because I like pop rock and I'm a pop rock wannabe (yay! don't worry I'm not serious). No, seriously, their sound is good. They are actually more than the typical pop rock since they are mixed with new wave which is somewhat ear-refreshing. Their music is catchy yet unpredictable, blast and solid. You will be rocked and rolled as they say. I don't fully like all of their songs though, I just got a few selected songs. On the other side, it seems that I'm the only guy who likes them. They are more likely the fan of ladies (and gays I think, :-&)! No wonder for the reason that they look like a boy band, but they have a real talent as a rock band. Set in Dickensian London, it tells the tale of Benjamin Barker, a naive barber who is transported for life to Botany Bay on a trumped-up charge. After 15 years of torture, he escapes with the aid of a youthful sailor named Anthony Hope, and returns to London only to find his wife dead, and his daughter Johanna the ward of Judge Turpin, the man who sent Barker to Botany Bay in order to have his way with his wife 15 years prior.
He changes his name to Sweeney Todd and reopens his barbershop above the bakery of Mrs. Lovett, a loony woman who makes the (self-avowed) "worst pies in London." With Mrs. Lovett's help, Todd vows to avenge his wife's death by killing the Judge.
Meanwhile, Judge Turpin, in a fit of jealousy, has resolved to marry Johanna. However, she and Anthony secretly fall in love and make plans to elope. Anthony confides in Todd about his scheme to carry away Johanna to the other end of England, unaware of the fact that Johanna is Todd's daughter.
Having seduced the Judge into his barbershop, Todd is a razorstroke away from vengeance when Anthony bursts in, praising his love for Johanna. The Judge, incensed at both Anthony and Sweeney, vows to never return to the barbershop, and to hide Johanna away where neither may ever find her.
Broken and furious over his missed opportunity, Todd vows vengeance against all mankind until he can finally kill the Judge. As he begins to slit the throats of unsuspecting customers, Mrs. Lovett comes up with the ingenious idea of disposing of the bodies by baking them into pies. As Mrs. Lovett's business blossoms (with the help of her mentally dull assistant, Tobias), her romantic fixations on Todd grow, but Todd remains resolutely focused revenge.
After discovering Johanna's location, Todd sets into motion a series of events in which he can reunite with Johanna and finally kill the Judge. However, when a crazed beggar woman appears in his barbershop moments before the Judge's arrival, Todd is forced to slit her throat in haste, depositing her body in the basement as the Judge enters his parlor.
Todd finally kills the Judge, but Lovett's screams bring Todd down to the basement, where he finds her cowering over the Beggar Woman's body. On closer inspection, Todd discovers that the Beggar Woman was, in fact, his wife Lucy - having gone mad 15 years prior after poisoning herself.
Furious, Todd hurls Mrs. Lovett into the furnace then, despondent, clutches his wife's dead body. Tobias, having gone mad from witnessing the dead bodies in the basement, slits Todd's throat, knowing revenge is all Todd understands. The Story
Captain Nathan Algren is a man adrift. The battles he once fought now seem distant and futile. Once he risked his life for honor and country, but, in the years since the Civil War, the world has changed. Pragmatism has replaced courage, self-interest has taken the place of sacrifice and honor is nowhere to be found - especially out West where his role in the Indian Campaigns ended in disillusionment and sorrow.
Somewhere on the unforgiving plains near the banks of the Washita River, Algren lost his soul.
A universe away, another soldier sees his way of life about to disintegrate. He is Katsumoto, the last leader of an ancient line of warriors, the venerated Samurai, who dedicated their lives to serving emperor and country. Just as the modern way encroached upon the American West, cornering and condemning the Native American, it also engulfed traditional Japan. The telegraph lines and railroads that brought progress now threaten those values and codes by which the Samurai have lived and died for centuries.
But Katsumoto will not go without a fight.
The paths of these two warriors converge when the young Emperor of Japan, wooed by American interests who covet the growing Japanese market, hires Algren to train Japan's first modern, conscript army. But as the Emperor's advisors attempt to eradicate the Samurai in preparation for a more Westernized and trade-friendly government, Algren finds himself unexpectedly impressed and influenced by his encounters with the Samurai. Their powerful convictions remind him of the man he once was.
Thrust now into harsh and unfamiliar territory, with his life and perhaps more important, his soul, in the balance, the troubled American soldier finds himself at the center of a violent and epic struggle between two eras and two worlds, with only his sense of honor to guide him.

Although Mort believes things can be solved once he shows Shooter the original version, which had appeared two years before Shooter`s version [Shooter wrote his in 1997. Rainey`s was published in early 1995.], he can`t seem to be able to get an original copy in the time limit set by Shooter.
Strange things start happening which prevent him from receiving the needed original and Mort tries to find out who Shooter really is and if he is responsible for the things which happen. Posted by Baladev on Nov 26, '06 11:57 PM for everyone | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Other |

This movie is one of my Tom Cruise' favorite, next to 'The Last Samurai'. Posted by Baladev on Nov 11, '06 3:31 PM for everyone | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Science Fiction & Fantasy |
